Machine Shop Friday, Part 6
A good day in the machine shop.
I spent most of the day helping make chain breakers. They are a relatively simple tool that enable you to press the links of a roller chain apart, to facilitate its installation and removal. This one is used on chains for high-performance go-karts. A very cool piece of machined steel, when in hand.
I also spent a portion of the day learning how to program CAD (computer aided design) and CAM (computer aided manufacturing) for an Omax waterjet machine. It's amazing how water (and some abrasive in the high-pressure stream) are able to slice through steel and titanium. That's my take-home studying for the next few weeks.
Best,
JBR
